The midsize pickup segment saw a major revitalization with the return of the Chevrolet Colorado. Since then, the truck has continued to pull in massive sales, and Chevrolet has made major upgrades as a result. So, without further ado, here comes the much-improved 2017 Chevrolet Colorado.
To kick things off, the old 3.6-liter V6 engine has been replaced by a new 3.6-liter V6 engine that’s already in models like the Chevrolet Camaro. The new engine is mated to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. All in all, the new V6 engine produces 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.
There aren’t any changes coming for the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or the 2.8-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine. Instead, a four-wheel drive selector knob comes standard on all models equipped with four-wheel drive. Teen Driver mode is now an optional feature and heated seats are available on trucks with cloth seats as well.
Chevrolet hasn’t revealed fuel economy numbers or any exact prices. The new V6 engine should be optional on extended-cab models and come standard on four-wheel drive crew cab and long-box models. Only time will tell if that will result in a price increase from the 2016 model year.
